Crochet Lefty – Beginner 101: How to Chain

Chain. Chain. Chain.

Chain of foooooooools.

Oh yeah. I’m singing. I’m rocking. I’m ready to get this ball of yarn rolling. *laughter* I hope you are as excited as I am on learning how to crochet.

BUT (you know I’ve got to insert my big ol’ butt here), but you need to get the basics down first.

You have your supplies… CHECK

You know how to tie a slip knot… CHECK

Now you’ll need to know how to create a foundation chain. ALL projects have a foundation chain. You can either create the chain first. As we will learn how to do in my video. OR you can create the chain along with your first row. Which is more advanced and I have finally learned how to do the single crochet foundation chain stitch. Woot! Woot! *throws hands in the air and waves them around like I don’t care*

So grab your hook and yarn. Let’s get a chaining…

Thanks for visiting everyone. Remember to continue to chain during the week. A few times a day for only a few minutes will get you results. The more you go through the routine, the more you will become more comfortable.

Next week we will begin to do single crochet (sc) stitches!

Until next time…

Happy hooking!

Beyond the Book – Activities

Activities

You class (or child) has finished reading a book. Would you like to keep the excitement of the words going? Or maybe show how what they have read can relate to the world around them? Taking it beyond the book shows reluctant readers that books carry into the world. It also shows bookies that just because the covers close doesn’t mean that world has ended.

ACTIVITIES are only one way to go. Think outside the box.

Did you read about an animal? Why not create a diorama to showcase their living habitat? Have an adventure? Create a scavenger hunt with items mentioned in the story. You can also do paintings/drawings, create mazes, cards, etc.

Once you begin to incorporate a book into every day life, you will begin to recognize activities that will continue the storyline you are reading on.

I am in the process of creating activities for each of my books. Now depending on the age level, will depend on the content you will need to create to go along with the books.

The most important thing is to encourage the love of literacy while expanding beyond the book and opening eyes.

Until next time…

Happy Reading!

AVON – Applicator/Blender

I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed how some people’s make-up looks flawless. The beauty of it amazes me. I know most don’t actually DO their own make-up, but still… someone does!

Make Up Artists have all sorts of different tools they use to apply make-up to their models. One thing they use is an Applicator/Blender. Now these ARE NOT the blenders from the 80s! Do you remember those?!!!? You know, those little white triangle. UGH! They soaked up more product than they put on your face!

So here I am… AVON Lady… with a blender available. So I decided to give it a try. Check out my review video:

The Deets From AVON:

Avon Pro Flawless Makeup Applicator

A flawless finish! The Avon Pro Flawless Makeup Applicator features soft, suede-like texture which blends makeup seamlessly for a flawless finish. The unique shape helps eliminate visible lines and streaks.

FEATURES
• Wide, rounded area for overall face coverage and bendability
• Pointed end for hard to reach or delicate areas, such as under eyes, or near nose and mouth
• Can be used for foundation, blush, powder, etc.
• Non-Latex PU
• 2 1/8″ X 1 1/4″

TO USE
• Prior to application, dampen Avon Pro Flawless Makeup Applicator with water and remove the excess. This prevents foundation from being absorbed into sponge
• Dip the Avon Pro Flawless Makeup Applicator into your fave Avon liquid or cream foundation
• Gently tap on face in a stippling motion

If you would like to purchase your own applicator/blender, please feel free to purchase from my online store. Let me know if you have any questions.

Until next time…

Be beautious!

5 Ways to Tie a Slip Knot

The first thing to learn to start crocheting is how to tie a slip knot. A slip knot that easily slides back and forth will allow enough room to pull through yarn, yet have enough tension to keep your stitch even.

Check out this video where I show you five different ways to tie a slip knot:

Now remember, those are not the only way to tie a slip knot. If one of those didn’t work for you, do a search on YouTube and see what else is out there. There are a few things to remember:

  • Find something you are comfortable with.
  • Don’t be afraid to try different techniques.
  • Have fun with it!

I hope that video helps you. Let me know what you think! Also get ready, because I will begin showing you how to make a chain AND be consistent next!

Until next time…

Happy hooking!

Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum in a Dish Activity

Do you like to blow bubbles with your bubble gum? I know I do. 😀

Although I know sometimes blowing bubbles can get you into trouble. It can be noisy. It can get sticky. It can be rude.

How about an activity that has all the fun of blowing a bubble AND it lasts?!

This Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum in a Dish activity will have you popping for fun! All you’ll need to do is download this free page, grab your crayons, a balloon, scissors (let an adult help you), and some tape.

Let me see what you do! Have a grown-up post your #fanart to social media with the hashtag #TMCcreates. I can’t wait to see what you’ve done.

Don’t forget to read my book, Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum in a Dish, and let me know what you think about it.

Have fun creating!
