There’s a new book in the world! My 11th picture book is now available!
The GET AWAY DANCE takes on a serious subject of what you should do if someone tries to take you away. I know, it’s a very serious and scary subject. As a writer, I believe in the power of words and education.
My generation grew up with Stop, Drop, & Roll, Just Say No to Drugs, Stranger Danger. I felt the empowerment of knowing what to do when a scary situation may have occurred.
After seeing someone trying to kidnap a child on the local news one night, I got to thinking what that child did right. Then I realized there was a need for others to know what to do, in case something like that happened to them.
Thus… The GET AWAY DANCE was born.
I hope to encourage parents to reinforce Stranger Danger to their children as well as include the Get Away Dance techniques to better equip their children in case someone tries to kidnap them.
The GET AWAY DANCE is published by Guardian Angel Publishing. Illustrated by Jack Foster.
Happy 10th Bookday, Squeaks & Shaping Up The Year!
Everyone grab a cupcake!
Thank you for coming. I really can’t take it all in still. Ten years… ten years ago my first book spread its wings and went out into the wild. *sniff, sniff. I’m such a proud book mommy.* And look at it today… ten years old. still making its way. Still showing people how to shape up every day into a beautiful thing.
I have been thinking on how I wanted to celebrate today. It’s a major milestone for me. And I thought what better way than to play it forward. I’m throwing a giveaway with 10 – yep TEN (one for each year) – prize packs. Each prize pack will include:
Shaping Up The Year book
Cover art sticker
TMC Productions sticker
Crochet Squeaks toy
But I have a goodie for everyone visiting too. Make sure you download Squeak’s Happy Birthday coloring page.
There’s been a lot of behind the scenes planning here.
But I also wanted you to know why I have been absent lately.
My husband had been sick for a while. Honestly, he has never truly recovered 100% from his open heart surgery in 2012.
Almost 3 months ago, we all came down with the flu. Tim got sick and progressively got worse. I took him to the er and found out he had to have surgery. There were complications. Two and a half days later, he took his last breath.
He was gone.
These past few months have been hard to say it best. Life will never be normal. I’m trying to piece things back together. To carry on with things we had planned on doing.
Like what is going to happen Monday. 🙂
He was so excited. Just know a lot of planning has gone into this celebration. So while I am excited about this coming week. Please understand why I may not seem to be that way all the time.
So, on a happier note…
The blogs are being written. The tweets are planned out. And I’m hoping you’ll like everything.
Here’s too a grand adventure. Keeping your chin up. And trying to see the good in everything.
Be kind. Love hard! Have a grateful heart. And as my Tim would say… #smilesmilesmile (~);-}
On BTB (Beyond The Book), I would like to look at SHAPING UP THE YEAR. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I use to make my own Valentine cards when I was little. I loved creating each card, making each one extra personal. It’s a great way to use your imagination. Not to mention you can create all different kinds of cards.
How does this tie into the book? Well, your card is a rectangle. You can cut out hearts and stars for different looks. Or you can combine shapes to create other things. A square with a triangle on top could be a happy home. The possibilities are endless.
To help you out, I have an activity page on my website that you can download, print out, and color to give you a head start. You can also find it here: Valentine Card Print Out.
I hope you enjoy making some wonderful cards and memories. Post your cards online and tag me in them. I would love to see what you create! Use the hashtag: #TMCcreates
I’m in interrupting my normal posts in a way… Well, this news does go beyond the book. Or actually before the book! 😁
Many times you’ll see a small article announcing a book deal in a magazine. But did you know there are hundreds of deals that do not get mentioned. Many small publishing houses do not get a listing. Those deals are big too. After all, every book that comes into this world is someone’s dream. When you hold a book, you are holding hundreds of hours of work, a dream, a piece of someone. I think all of those deserve to be celebrated, don’t you?
So without further ado….
Picture book author,Tracey M. Cox has sold her rights to Guardian Angel Publishing for what will be her 11th picture book. The book will be illustrated by Jack Foster, who also has multi-books. This will be the second book Tacey and Jack have collaborated on.
THE GET AWAY DANCE is a picture book that addresses a very sensitive subject, but will empower children. What to do if a stranger tries to take you away? The story will reinforce Stranger Danger techniques. Then it describes what a child should do if the worse happens. What should you do if you do everything right, and yet someone tries to take you? You do THE GET AWAY DANCE!
Thank you everyone for coming over to hear my news! I’m super excited and cannot wait to see the amazing illustrations Jack does!
