http://www.   Wednesday   – KidLit.TV

Hi everyone.

Most of you know one of my passions is writing.

*bet you couldn’t guess that. LAUGHING*

I’m honored to be a part of the KidLit TV team.  For those of you who haven’t checked out their website, it is full of videos that are kid-friendly.

STORYMAKERS: Features authors (and kidlit champions) who share something about a book of theirs. It could be an interview, or a yummy recipe, or a craft, or sharing other titles, and on and on. It’s a great way for children to see the people who are behind-the-book.

READ OUT LOUD: Who doesn’t like story time????? So gather around and listen in as someone (author/illustrator/literacy champion) reads a story and shares the artwork inside the covers.

READ, SET, DRAW!: Time to drag out your pencils, pens, markers, or water colors! Budding artists can learn first-hand to draw from illustrators!!!! How cool is that?!?

Podcasts: Many of the episodes are available as podcasts! You can always listen to an episode!

There’s a tab for crafts and thinking outside-the-box! There’s also Phil’s Fast 5 episodes, Two-In-A-Teepee, and so much more.

Check out: KidLit.TV, but be prepared to stay for a while!

Until next time…
Happy writing!

Tuesday Tips: Use a Book Trailer

BLOG-Use a Book TrailerUse a Book Trailer

I love using book trailers as a teaser to my books. My first six books I used inside artwork to build interest. For The Children at the Playground, I did something new. I put a call out on social media for people who were willing to share picture of their children at the playground.

I loved the pictures I received!!!! I only wish I could have used them all.  😀

So here are somethings to consider when creating a book trailer:

  1. What story or message do you want to convey?
A great trailer will tell a story and leave the viewer wanting more. In other words, they will want to purchase your book or look for it in their library.
  2. What medium do you want to use?
Cover art, inside art, pictures, videos, tie-ins. Different uses will get different peoples attention.
  3. Time frame!
Book trailers (like movie trailers) are great when kept short. You are trying to grab their attention, not put them to sleep. *hahaha*
  4. Acknowledgements
If you use someone’s picture or music, give them credit.
  5. Links
Don’t forget to include YOUR links. Your website, your publishers website, and mention indie booksellers, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million.

So here it is!!!!!! The book trailer for The Children at the Playground!!!!!!

:::LEAVE ME A COMMENT:::

Let me know what you think of the book trailer!
Would you be interested in reading the book now?
What else could I have done to be more interesting?

Until next time…

Happy Writing!

Monday Marketing & A CTA #TCATPG

Marketing and a CTA – #TCATPG

Marketing can be a challenge.

You have ups and downs Some things work. Others don’t. Marketing can be done in so many ways. I thought I would try something that a writer/illustrator colleauge of mine, Debbie Ohi, is doing…

It has to do with book trailers. Book trailers are a great way to get people interested in your book. They are used like movie trailers. They give the potential consumer a glimpse of the work to hopefully get them interested in buying the product.

There are plenty of companies out there who offer this service. OR if you are handy with some software and are creative, you can make your own. As some of you may know, I  have done 5 of my 6 book trailers. I happen to have a book coming out in May, and have been trying to come up with a different approach to a book trailer. I wanted to do something different. Something to get people more involved. Debbie gave me a great idea and that’s where you come in…

swing_set.svg.medTHE CHILDREN AT THE PLAYGROUND  (Xist Publishing) will be released into the wild in two months.
AND I need YOUR help!

CTA – #TCATPG

Here’s where you come in:

  1. Take a picture or a short 5-7 second video of your children having fun at the playground.
  2. Add the hashtag #TCATPG to your pictures
  3. Send it to tcatpg@traceymcox.com
  4. Use #TCATPG in your subject line.
  5. Give me permission to use your child’s picture in my book trailer.
  6. If it is okay for me to list your families name, please state so.
  7. I will send you a confirmation email as soon as I make sure it came in clear.

I plan on using the photos and videos I receive to make a book trailer for The Children At The Playground. I think it would be great to show what everyone likes to do. The video will be around 1 minute long. Depending on the participation, I may not be able to use everyone’s photo or video.

Thanks everyone. I hope to have a great turn out.
