MARKETING 101

Class is in session!

I am in the process of creating an intensive course for how to market. In the process, I will be sharing tidbits to help those of you along your journey to be able to market yourself and your products (business) better.

Do you need to market?

Well, do you own your own business? If you answer yes, then you do! Even if you have big businesses backing you or your products, the marketing that is done in your favor has gone down in recent years.

What do you need to do?

How to get started?

Have you looked around the internet lately? I know I see ads all over the place. So how to compete with what’s already out there? Keep coming back to read my Marketing Monday posts. I will start with the basics and gradually help guide you through cross-posting, branding, and more.

And yes, I know I started talking about this earlier, but things change… constantly. I will be offering the most up to date information I have

Leave me a comment:

Are you interested in what I have to say?
Do you have something you would like to see me touch on?
What is your favorite social media outlet?

Until next time…
Have fun reading!

Monday Marketing: YOUTUBE *video killed the radio star*

Today I’m talking about Marketing with VIDEO.

Yes, video!

What better concept to get your message across. Let’s face the facts. MOST PEOPLE ARE VISUAL LEARNERS. This means a picture is worth a thousand words.  (which makes me sad… I’m an author! I live on words.) You can tell someone something (directions/recipes/variations of color/yadda yadda), but if you SHOW them… It clicks!

Think of other social media. Sure you read peoples status updates, but the ones with pictures will grab your attention faster. Right? RIGHT! The ones with videos on how-to or something funny last with you longer. Right? RIGHT! This is one reason why Pinterest has blossomed like it has. It works with pictures.

THEN ADD GOOGLE TO THE MIX! Yep, I said it. Google is the #1 search engine and if you load your videos onto YouTube (which is #3 search engine, btw!!!) You  will get tones of hits. Because Google owns YouTube. PLUS, PLUS, PLUS YouTube has made it so easy to add categories and tags to your posts to make them easier to find. THUS enriching your seo!

But I don’t know how to make a video. What kind of equipment do I have to buy?
Do you have a smartphone? Here’s a quick and simple video I did for an example:

Another option is using your Google+ account and making the most out of Google+Hangout On Air.

Using videos will only add to your search engine optimization. It is a total Win situation.

You don’t have to be on camera either. There are tutorials such as power point, book trailers, interviews, and so on. BUT by being on camera, your customers, followers, and others in your field will be able to get to know you more, such as your mannerism, voice, smile, sarcastic remarks. They will begin to trust you more because their is the “PICTURE” of you right there in front of them.

:::LEAVE ME A COMMENT:::
Let me know what you think. What ideas have you seen worked? What else would you like to know about video? I’d love to hear from you.

Now get out there filming!

Monday Marketing: Google+

googleplus

Yes, Google+ is important. Yes, you really should have an account.  And I can give you one GIGANTIC reason why… *hint* it’s the first word… “GOOGLE”.

Google is the #1 search engine. Think about it. A few years ago, you talked about searching for something on the internet. Today we say, “Google it.”. Boom, Bang, Done.

Google+, like any smo, has it’s pluses and minuses. You can find family and friends, create circles, and join communities. BUT there are also Hangouts on there. You can talk to someone face to face and have an actual social interaction with them. WHICH IS GREAT! Who doesn’t like human contact, to see someone smile, or to hear them laugh!

For your business sense, it’s great. I’ve created several circles to where I can send messages to specific individuals. Like writers, family, friends, media specialist, etc. This way you don’t have to worry about bothering everyone else about your latest presentation for schools or the new book signing you may have coming up or the family vacation pictures of you on the river with NOOOOOOO make-up.  See, not meant for everyone’s eyes. hahahhahahaa.

While it is another smo to keep up with and remember to post and share across, I have found that it is a valuable asset to someone with their own business.

Hope to post some tips about Google+ next week.

Tuesday Tips: Platform Building

I have been going over social media outlets and still have a few to touch on. Today I really want to give you tips on why you should consider your platform and the world you are building for.yourself. Think of a store front that you see going through your downtown area or in a mall. You will obviously recognize the major brands and eventually you will get familiarized with the “mom & pop” stores too. BUT there lies the problem. You have to get familiarized with them.

THIS is why platform building is such a great opportunity to market yourself to your customers. They will begin to see your name and your business out there in the public eye and begin to trust the services you say and do provide.

Here are a few things to consider with your platform building:

  1. Your name (brand).
What is your message you are wanting to get across. Are you a writer? Baker? Lawyer? Hair stylist? Boutique owner? If you own your own business, you need to get your name out to the local public.
  2. How people preceive you.
How do you come across to people? Really target the types of people you want to come into your business. Even if it is an online business, they still have to click and browse!
-Clothing… you might want to have the latest styles you have available.
-Cooking… How about a gallery of your finished products.
-Writing/Illustrating… Let people see your work (published pieces or glimpse of unfinished artwork), freebies.
Do you give discounts or raffles? Do you have giveaways? Or referral systems?
  3. What you want to accomplish.
Of course you want people to buy, but you also want them to talk about your business too. You need the word of mouth to help you in your business. Platform building makes that more than easy to do with all the instant buttons for people to click. This makes is simple to share, like, reblog, etc about you.
  4. What can you give back.
Yes, what can you give back. Again, freebies, giveaways, referrals, etc. Do you do something in your community? Are you in any organizations that help out? Let people know that you not only care about their business, but that you care about the community in which you live in.

Monday Marketing: Facebook

facebook

Facebook is one of the biggest social media outlets out there. If you are not marketing, you are missing a valuable opportunity.

Two types of Pages:

There are two types of pages on Facebook: Personal and Business. No, you don’t have to have both. I do though. And here is why…

On my business page I post events I will be attending, festivals where I will be selling my books, author visits to schools, new releases, book trailers, some of my writing journey. I don’t bombard people with all my private life here, unless it overlaps my writing life.
On my personal page you are going to get everything.  Pictures of my children and fur-babies. *yes, my dogs are my furry children*, what is going on in my life, community, how much I miss NY, heart awareness (deal with it),  and anything else I can think of without getting too personal.   🙂

I do promote my books on my personal site too though. Cross-posting can be beneficial, especially if you don’t have some people on your ‘fan’ page, but they are friends with you on Facebook. AND if they are like me, they have a lot of friends. So any posts I do include on my personal page won’t clog up their news feed.

Host an Event

If you want to get special attention for something, try hosting an event. I’ve seen people do give-aways, book launches, raffles, family reunions, all sorts of things.

Are you using Facebook as a promotional tool? Let me know what you are doing and how it is going!

Happy writing!
