Marketing Monday: School Time + Author Time = LEARNING STUDENTS

School time + Author time = LEARNING STUDENTS

*RING, RING, RING*

Bellred-school-mdBell

It’s that time of the year again…

  • Freshly sharpen pencils
  • New notebooks
  • Books being cracked open for the first time

Yes, I get excited this time of the year. And no, it’s not because my child goes back to school. Although the whole “we have a schedule” is an added bonus. I get excited because this is my busy time. Time for me to…

  • open my planner
  • email TONS of media specialist in my state
  • make sure my website is up to date and has all my pdfs ready
  • go to school and talk about writing

Yep, AUTHOR VISITS!

My next block of blog posts will be covering this topic.

WHO to contact to schedule visits?

WHAT is an author visit?

WHEN should you hold an author visit?

WHERE can you hold an author visit in your school?

HOW to prepare for an author visit? (author and school)

WHY should you invite an author to visit your school?

PLUS any other nuggets I can throw into the mix!

I also plan on compiling a list of authors and illustrators who offer author visits (in person and online).

So keep coming back, sign up for updates on my blog —->

And encourage your local schools to book an author!

Drop me a comment!!!

*Leave me your information if you are an AUTHOR or ILLUSTRATOR that would like to be included on my list. I will need your NAME, WEBSITE, and STATE YOU LIVE IN.
*Got a question you would like to ask about AUTHOR VISITS? Ask below.
*Is there some part of  the author visit YOU would like me to include? Put AUTHOR VISIT TOPIC  in the comments with what you want to see covered.

Can’t wait to read what you have to offer and I hope to help some of you along the way.

Tuesday Tips: YouTube hints and tricks

I’ll admit it…

The whole YouTube – Video was intimidating to me. I mean come on! You want me to get in front of a camera and talk. UGH! And what to talk about???? What if I mess up? What if I freeze? What if…? WHAT IF…!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND WHAT IF A FROG HAD WINGS?
IT WOULDN’T BUMP IT’S BUTT EVERY TIME IT HOPS!

So, let’s all feel a little froggy and get to hoppin’.    😉

I went on YouTube and looked at all sorts of videos. Trying to see what worked and what didn’t. Trust me, there are plenty of examples of both.

What should you video?

Sometimes I look up topics and can’t find exactly what I’m looking for.  BINGO… video idea

I started doing my book reviews via video. I thought it would be a great way to let people see a few illustrations and also the size of the books. Also, who doesn’t like talking about books.

Interviews. I did my first with Katie Davis and had such fun! Can’t wait to do another one.

Silly videos, promotional videos, and then you can go more personal. YES, I have puppy videos. hahaha. Why  not videos for  the newlyweds or family reunions? The possibilities are unlimited.

So here’s a tips and hint sheet I worked on to help you on your way of mastering YouTube:

5 YouTube Tricks and Hints

Monday Marketing: YOUTUBE *video killed the radio star*

Today I’m talking about Marketing with VIDEO.

Yes, video!

What better concept to get your message across. Let’s face the facts. MOST PEOPLE ARE VISUAL LEARNERS. This means a picture is worth a thousand words.  (which makes me sad… I’m an author! I live on words.) You can tell someone something (directions/recipes/variations of color/yadda yadda), but if you SHOW them… It clicks!

Think of other social media. Sure you read peoples status updates, but the ones with pictures will grab your attention faster. Right? RIGHT! The ones with videos on how-to or something funny last with you longer. Right? RIGHT! This is one reason why Pinterest has blossomed like it has. It works with pictures.

THEN ADD GOOGLE TO THE MIX! Yep, I said it. Google is the #1 search engine and if you load your videos onto YouTube (which is #3 search engine, btw!!!) You  will get tones of hits. Because Google owns YouTube. PLUS, PLUS, PLUS YouTube has made it so easy to add categories and tags to your posts to make them easier to find. THUS enriching your seo!

But I don’t know how to make a video. What kind of equipment do I have to buy?
Do you have a smartphone? Here’s a quick and simple video I did for an example:

Another option is using your Google+ account and making the most out of Google+Hangout On Air.

Using videos will only add to your search engine optimization. It is a total Win situation.

You don’t have to be on camera either. There are tutorials such as power point, book trailers, interviews, and so on. BUT by being on camera, your customers, followers, and others in your field will be able to get to know you more, such as your mannerism, voice, smile, sarcastic remarks. They will begin to trust you more because their is the “PICTURE” of you right there in front of them.

:::LEAVE ME A COMMENT:::
Let me know what you think. What ideas have you seen worked? What else would you like to know about video? I’d love to hear from you.

Now get out there filming!

www.Wednesday = The BLUE BOARD forum

The writer’s life can be a lonely life. Most of us work at home or in snipets throughout the day when we get a chance. We build our ideas and write our stories. We revise and rework and sometimes redo the whole story all by ourselves. Very. Very. Solitary.

But it doesn’t have to be. There are groups you can join and people you can meet. This is such an valuable resource.

But what if you live in a rural community and don’t have access to these great people? Turn to the internet. There are so many opportunities out there now. FaceBook has a vast network of different groups. There are forums you can join t0o… outside Social Media.

One of those I want to talk about today is:

THE BLUE BOARDS
http://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php

The Blue Boards started many moons ago by author Verla Kay. She wanted a place where people could come together, get support, share ideas, and share information. Late last year, SCBWI took over The Blue Boards. It still looks the same, the same people are there, and some great information is to be had. This was one of the first forums I ever ran across 14 years ago. I bookmarked it immediately and have returned and returned and returned to it time and again.

I hope you find it as valuable resource as I have.

Do know of another open forum with great information? Where do you get the most recent information from? What is one website you just can’t live without?

I’d love to hear what you think.
