WHY is having an author or illustrator visit important to your school?

In brief, students learn better when they are engaged and excited about a subject. What better way to get students excited about literacy than to have someone who is devoted to the field to explain to them about pacing, story line, conflict, character developement, etc. What better way to get students excited about reading than to have the person who wrote, illustrated, or both be there talking to them about the book and allow them to ask questions.
